about
2020 was set to be a big year for Katherine Priddy, with whispers of a debut album on the horizon, as well as bookings for the Acoustic Stage at Glastonbury Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Wood Festival and plenty more. When Covid-19 emptied her diary, she began a series of live streams where as many as 400 people tuned in at one time. She was also asked to participate in prestigious online festivals including Philadelphia Folk Festival, whilst her online Nick Drake collaboration with Jon Wilks, Lukas Drinkwater and Jon Nice was featured on the BBC 2 Folk Show. Most recently, Katherine was awarded a place on the English Folk Expo Mentorship Programme, offering her industry advice and opportunities for the next 12 months.
Now, just as 2020 seemed set to pass by without any new music from Priddy, she has emerged with a surprise new single. “Still Winter, Still Waiting” is a warm and uplifting seasonal song about being apart from a loved one over Winter, a situation many will relate to this year. The track features gorgeous strings from Harry Fausing Smith, as well as the pure vocals and lush harmonies we’ve come to expect from Priddy’s music. The song exemplifies the familiar feelings of longing and loneliness, perfectly tempered by with those of patience and hope. Just what we need this year.
This is the third release for Priddy, who appeared on the scene in 2018 with her EP ‘Wolf’, a release Richard Thompson named as his 'Best Thing I've Heard All Year' in MOJO Magazine. This was followed by a limited edition vinyl single ‘Letters From a Travelling Man’ in 2019, accompanied by sold out shows in Birmingham, Cambridge, Oxford, Durham and Kenilworth and packed out rooms in Brighton, Bristol and London. Having previously supported the likes of The Chieftains, Martin Carthy, Richard Thompson and Vashti Bunyan, Priddy has received plays and interviews from BBC 2 Folk Show, Lauren Laverne, Gideon Coe, Tom Robinson, BBC Wales, BBC London and a host of local radio stations. It is clear that, despite the delicate nuances of her sound, Katherine Priddy is not a fragile wallflower, but a woman who means business.
lyrics
Winter is coming and we all feel her weight,
She’s just round the corner ain’t one to be late,
But you’ll keep me warm and you’ll make sure I ate
And I’ll keep you in bed and let the world wait.
Well I’d like to remind you of things yet to come
Like the hikes in the snow and moonlight and sun
On our necks as we lie by the waters in June,
You’ll say that it’s late but it’s always too soon
I love you
And I not there to show it
But I hope you still know it
And I’ll come home real soon with the Christmas lights glowing
Oh love
There’s a look in your eye and I know it too well,
You’ve the scent of adventure, it’s gonna raise hell,
You’re a mischievous darling with a need to be free,
But I’ll grow wherever your roots need to be.
I know that it’s hard when I’m so far away
But I love you the same as I did that the first day
Oh I must have the emptiest arms in the world
The emptiest arms in the world
I love you
And I not there to show it
But I hope you still know it
And I’ll come home real soon with the Christmas lights glowing
Oh love
Priddy’s original works are delivered with an emotional maturity, depth and a tenderness that still carries a darker edge,
citing Nick Drake, John Martyn, Tunng and Imagined Village amongst her influences. Her lyrics are particularly noteworthy - a tribute to her life-long love affair with literature and poetry and the stories she weaves are transporting....more

Love the complexity of this track and the rising and falling of the violins, and the texture. Makes me want to dance.
Thank you so much for this album. I really love it, and find it really inspiring my own work on the Witchcraft Trials ❤️ tararosehip

There's a similarity in song writing between Richard Thompson and Hugh Cornwell which maybe isn't surprising as they went to the same school at the same time, although Thompson is older.
Due to Thompson's association with John French of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band I searched for his work on the Bandcamp app. French, Thompson and Cornwell all have albums on the app which I'm very pleased about. Only Thompson has released contemporary albums, much to his credit. yellowcakeuf6

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser.
Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this.
Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?).
With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6
